When I wash, I use Bike Brite...... spray and rinse. I use Meguiars spray detailer and microfiber towels between washes. I've been using Pig Spit on my engines to blacken them for 15 years...works great.

The S100 engine brightener works great for me, just don't let it sit on the chrome too long.

I picked up a bottle of the Klock Works Shine spray and I'm really impressed with it. I've used the Honda spray, Pledge, Harley spray detailer, and Lucas products in the past but the Klock Works stuff is good.

bucket, soap, sponge- like in another thread, running your hands over the bike will help you find loose parts.

s100 is a great cleaner for greasey parts, FOLLOW the directions- cool parts

any car type wax- I use s100 if it comes in a 2 pack with the cleaner, otherwise any brand name.

when touring, a wet towel draped over the front of the bug will loosen the bug guts while you set up camp or move into the motel room or have a beverage

spray on cleaners can be good but...I tried the honda stuff once and my windscreen reacted to it...

I use a manmade chamois to dry, I do not use microfiber- I use 100% cotton ( diapers)

I use "Simple Green" concentrate. I mix up two spray bottles. One really strong for the wheels and underneath, and a lighter duty I use on the painted parts when I want to do a quick spray, rinse, and go. The stuff is really cheap and works great. Can be had at Home Depot or just about anywhere also.

I buy Spraway glass cleaner from Walmart for less than $3 a spray can and I can't believe how well it works. I have used all the motorcycle specific cleaners I know of and this stuff is readily available and I use it on Windshield, paint, chrome and tires. The tires and wheels even came clean with a lot of brake dust etc. on them. I even keep a can in the saddlebags for gas spills or heavy windshield bugs. You really need to try it.

Most cleaners do a good job. I was pleased with the '303' products we as HD Forum members received back in the fall, and I'm a customer now (multi surface cleaner, detailer and UV protectorant.)

As for a black motor, anything silicone based with brighten it up (but I've even used WD10-40 too (sparingly,) with success.

(It's pretty hard to screw it up.)

You can use an oz of this in a gallon of water to wash and wax the bike.

I put about 2 oz in a 16 oz spray bottle filled with water and a microfiber to wash and wax another to wipe it dry. No residue but it keeps the bike clean and waxed after every ride.
This process works good for cleaning bugs, or just a slightly dusty bike.
I'd do a full wash, using a little more than an oz per gallon for a one step wash and wax.
Does a great job and can also be used as the liquid for clay barring, or just detailing.

I've always used Original Biker Spirits, and it works on every kind of surface. Paint, chrome, rubber, windshield, you name it. I also use it on the engine black, just spray it on lightly and leave it. In the 3 1/2 years of owning my current bike, it has been washed just 2 or 3 times, and that was after long trips where I got caught in the rain. Every other time I just use OBS.
