Default Shifter Shaft HELP

I had a leaking seal at the shifter shaft and pulled it a part to replace. Everything has gone well, purchaced the proper tool to install the seal. My problem is, The shifter shaft itself has moved into the transmission some. Once I place the washer over the shaft there is no longer any room to put the snap ring on. I tried pulling on the shaft to move it out and it won't budge. Has anyone else run into this or do you have any solutions?

Thanks in advance for your help...

Put your lever back on and rotate shaft while pulling outward. Did you lube new seal before seating it in place?

Yes I lubed both the inside and outside of the seal. I will try putting the lever on as you suggested. Thanks

I was wondering if I could get to it through the top cover. Thanks, I will give that a try.

Thanks for the tip. Worked perfect, everything is now lined up and the retaining ring is installed. Thanks again
