Default debating bike trade

I just bought my 12 EGC and am trying to sell my 06 RK. I figure I will buy another cheaper project bike after I sell the RK and put some $ back in the bank to keep momma happy. Asking $11,500 for it
My RK has 11k on it. I just spend 2k+ over the winter on it. New Michelin tires, S&S cams, AC, rush dual exhaust, oil pump spring, Dyno. I know I can't recover all the money.
The option of keeping the RK is not on the table and I need to replace some cash.

I had a guy call and is offering $5500 plus a 2000 heritage for my RK. It has 23k and new Dunlop tires. He said there is one ding on the front fender and the bags are sagging, otherwise no issues and pretty much stock. other than pipes. It is carb'd (which is a good thing with a 2000)
I know that the older 1450 bikes are getting harder to resell.
Guess i'm just looking for any thoughts good or bad on this deal, or advice on it. He came and looked at my bike last night, and I am hoping to go see his within the next couple days.

Everybody thinks there bike is worth more than Bluebook. If you take care of your stuff and have added some more upgrades. Than you are most likely even more convinced your bike is at a higher value. Not just you but all bike owners. This is not to say someone will not pay over Bluebook. Having said that. Your RK is worth about 9700 to a bank. The Heritage is worth about 7800. If your inspection checks out yes it is a good deal. If you sell the traded bike. You make more than the 11,500 you were asking to start. You also get to ride it if you want . Only negative I see is if and when you try to sell it. It takes some time because of the year. (2000). Good luck!

Your 06 road King is not gonna fetch 11,500. Try 8 or 9k. As I just said in another post...market is flooded with used bikes.

I think thats a fair deal, but that is just my opinion.

You get your project bike and some cash in your pocket, win - win.

doesn't seem like a bad deal if you want the softail. I wouldn't trade just to try and flip it. I'd keep my RK. I prefer touring bikes so I'd pass.

Same here. A dyna I could build up and rod around maybe. The deal isn't bad if that is what you are looking for.

While I appreciate the replies, I am glad this time that I didn't follow the advice and drop the asking price on my bike to $8-9k. I sold the bike today after being listed for about 2.5 weeks for $10.500. Even though I was asking 11.5 , which was probably a top price for a 06, the bike was in prestine condition, with only 11.6k miles.
As for the trade that this thread started about. I never heard from the guy again, so I guess he decided to change his mind.
My wife said, "so, I guess it's time for you to start looking for another project bike" sometimes I actually like this girl. lol
