Before HID and LED became big and affordable, I upgraded to the 7" Hella E code and an 80/100 bulb. HUGE difference and I love it. Wondering if anyone else with the same Hella E has tried it with either of the other bulb styles, LED or HID? Any input is much appreciated.

I'm running the Hella E class fluted flat lens and a fuel moto led conversion bulb with no issues at all. Aside from the fact that this bulb doesn't have a high beam it still is very bright compared to the osram 80/100 bulb that I was running. I like the look of the older style glass on my road king which is why I went this route

It is still the case IMHO that the best way to use LED or HID technology is to use a dedicated light unit. LED bulbs in particular do not seem to focus properly in a conventional reflector, as they are longer than incandescent bulbs. They may be very bright, so they can be seen, but do not give a well defined beam, by which to see.

The world is flat.

Numerous articles and a few tests show why these led/hid capsules don't work properly in a headlight designed for a halogen bulb.

Hopefully this will help.
I ran the 80/100 Hella in the stock housing for years. Great setup. I tried a drop in LED from Fuel Moto. It sucked for all the reasons discussed. I did a full review with pictures if you did a search. I can only imagine the exact same results with an E-Code lenses.
Now.... never one to give up a fight, I did extensive research. Companies are now finally making bulbs that actually DO work in the stock style housing. I.e., check the dates on the daniel stern website. That's old a$$ information. In my case it's the 3200 Lumen OPT7 bulb. I can probably even post some pics later, if you wish. But to make a long story short, the OPT7 drop in LED seems to work pretty darn well in my stock housing, so I suspect it will work even better in a E-Code. There still is "some" bleeding and overflow, and it's not a perfectly crisp pattern. But it's tight, I get no flashing from oncoming traffic, it's super white, and is way better than the early drop in bulbs. It was $59 on Amazon.
Last but not least, I still don't think these LEDs are all that much better than a good old fashioned 80/100 Hella. That bulb is just a freakin good light for a whopping $8.95. Just sayin.
