Default 13 clutch adjustment

My 13 eglide with 11,000 miles on it was creeping forward and I was having trouble finding neutral, So yesterday morning I tried adjusting the clutch. I put the bike upright slacked the cable opend the derby cover loosen the locked nut thread the adjuster in an out a couple times then thread it in to it touches then back 1 turn .take slack out of cable an test ride.Clutch grabed to far out, waited to about 7 last night did again with backing off adjuster 1/2 turn still grabs out to far. I like it to grab about 1/2 inch off the handle bar.I have this done before with no issues what am I missing. bob

Are you adjusting it cold? Also, what is the distance that you are using for the cable ferrule at the perch?

You said you turned the screw in until it touches, I think the book said until lightly seated. I used to use thumb and forefinger touch when seating the screw, trying to get a feel for zero lash when determining lightly seated. Maybe I was too ****, but always seemed to work for me. At this point for you it won't hurt to try that.

sounds like the ball bearings aren't seated right on the ramp, however you could try this method first to see if that helps

Maybe you did not put enough slack in the cable [ step 1 ] with the adjuster seated, there should still be slack in the cable.

What your experiencing is normal. If your clutch was engaging 1/2 inch off the bar, that was part of your problem. 1/2 inch is cutting it close to be able fully disengage the clutch. Thus you had creeping issues and trouble finding neutral when your clutch lever was fully pulled in. By adjusting the clutch pack you changed the leverage point in the clutch and as a result your clutch lever is closer to normal.

After adjusting my clutch pack per the manual, my clutch also engages closer to the end of its travel. You can play with the cable adjustment to get it closer to what you want.

liquidr1, I think your right.Took bike for a ride today it shifted better an found neutral easier. though I woud like to have it start to engage a little closer to the bar.The last time I did this I must have gotten lucky got it where I wanted on the first shot. thanks every body for the replies. Happy memorial day bob

I too prefer a closer to bar engagement. Tried it farther out but didnt like the contol there. It only took 1/4 to 1/2 turn of adjuster to
change on my 2013 to where I liked it vs where I didnt like it.
