Default Time for a new set of tires- opinions??

2003 Ultra Classic- It's time for me to get a new set of tires. I've done some reading and am leaning towards the Metzeler 888's. Any opinions on this tire? Any recommendations on something else? Looking for a reasonably priced tire, but definitely don't wanna go cheap. Right now Metzeler has a $50 rebate, so that helps!

Do a search on the site. You'll be reading info for the next 3 years. Good luck.

That's what I was afraid of. I was hoping to get real world experience. I guess it'll be the same as all the reviews I've read, huh?

My friend runs Metzelers on his 07 FLHT STD & likes them. I ran Metzelers on my FXR & they were a good tire. I'm a fan of Dunlops American Elite. I just bought a set from Rocky Mountain ATV. Free shipping & outstanding customer service. Ask for Ryder. I suggest you do a google search. There are some really great deals out there. Good Luck.

Well, that's what a lot of the forum posts are. Real world experience by the riders on their bikes with that tire.

As can be expected, the experiences and opinions are many and varied.

I would go with Michelin Commander 2s. I had stock Dunlops on my 2012 Ultra and ran them for 15K and then switched to the MC2s. I ran the MC2s for 20K and still had life left. (As a matter of fact, a buddy of mine who was a little short on cash, put them on his bike to get the rest of the life out of them.) I only took them off my bike because I found a set of stock take off Enforcer rims with stock Dunlop tires, brand new. So, when I had my service I asked my Indy to put them on. How could I go wrong, right. Eh... I'll tell you this, as soon as it makes reasonable sense I'll be ordering another set of MC2s. The stock Dunlops are OK but I feel every little tar snake in the road, not to mention I'm pretty sure I won't see the mileage out of them I did with my MC2s. Michelin in my tire of choice at this point and I can't wait to put a new set on.

I switched to Michelin Commanders on my 2010 Ultra Limited when the stock tires were done. Very pleased with the handling ride.

Those American Elites are pretty good. Matter of fact, they're amazing in the rain

With my old Road King Classic I used Metzler 880's for years, used them on my current 05 Ultra but went through them too fast (6-6500 miles on rear). Switched to Dunlop E3's and really liked them, got a few more miles out of them ( around 8k ). Recently went with Dunlop American Elite and so far they have been the best. Still have to see how many miles I'll get with them.
