Find a garage queen.
That's what I would look for.

!5k for a used road king is very doable. I just did a quick search and you can find Rushmore 2014+ kings for that.

As far as the years go for the kings the 09 was the new frame 11 has the 103 as an option 12 and up are 103's and the 14's and up are the 103HO's. 09-13 they really didn't change much. 14+ have different bars and ergo's. The Rushmore's also changed to CANBUS electronics.

Electra glide is a general term that spanned the bat wing family sans the street glide. With the demise of the base model in 09 (the last year they offered it) they just call them by classic, ultra, limited.

Does anybody know when or if an 1/8" aux input jack was available? Or when bluetooth for music was available?

Another thing you may want to consider is ABS, they are standard on some trim levels, optional on some and may not have been available on some.

If tunes are important, a Road King might be less desirable since they do not have either type of faring. If you want to connect a phone to the head unit, spend a bit of time in the audio section of the forum, there are some great resources there that could probably advise you on most any modifications you would consider.

In my experience, the RK handles the best without all the fairings and storage. Some believe the RG is next in handling, but I find the SG isn't all that much different accept in a wind gust. Even then it handles fine, just not like the RG. Add the additional weight of fairings and storage, I would start with the 2014s because the better front end handles the additional weight better.

Right now I have a full face bluetooth helmet. So a Road King would still be cool. And even through I don't like those tombstone windshields it'd be better than nothing on hour + trips.

If you are sold on the RK (I've owned several with a 2007 at the moment), then I suggest getting one with the 103. Good engine and easy to make better.

I would suggest going to a large dealer and ask all these questions. A sales person would be able to answer your questions and show you the differences on the bikes you are interested.

Just dowt get sucked into the fever of buying and really get an understanding of what is out there.

There are plenty of used bikes out there sitting in garages with minimal miles on them.

Find the model you like, look on places like eBay, here at HD Forums in the classifieds, Craigslist, etc...

Going from a Slim to a touring model will be monumental in comfort. Depending on the model the creature comforts will be much better as well.
