I have an 01 FI Road King, how do you raise the idle. is there a mechanical adjustment?

 

your idle should be 1000 rpms +/- 50

this "high idle" is needed to keep oil pressure and volume high- the oil actually removes heat from the hottest parts of the motor- resulting in a net cooling.

there is an idle adjust which can be done through the backing plate once the air cleaner cover is removed -
