Default Progressive Suspension 944 Ultra Low Shocks

I had a set of Progressive Suspension 944 Ultra Low shocks install at their booth in Rapid City HD. They set the sag and I took off for home. All I can say is that my bike now feels like a hard tail. I have tried every means of contact with them but to no avail. The most sag I can get is 1/8 of an inch and that is with zero preload. Any suggestions? I have a 2013 Street Glide.

Maybe they installed the heavy duty springs? Is there is a sticker on the shock or the box with the model number? The 944-4001UL is the regular springs and the 944-4019UL is the heavy duty springs.

Hi from the UK and welcome to HDF. They are an HDF sponsor, so look them up on here and send them a PM, or phone them. You may not be able to do a PM as a newcomer, until you have a few more posts under your belt.

I have 940's, and until I had standard springs put on them I felt the same way. I am betting you had HD springs, and they are STIFF. Dunno why they don't come with standard as they're better suited for most riders.

Once standard springs were installed, not only was the ride much more plush where it needed to be, I was able to set sag easily. Moreover...I think that there was a break in period even at that. After about 1000 miles my shocks seemed to perform better than when the springs were brand new. Might be my imagination, but I am at least happy with the way they perform.

Good luck!

I installed the 944 Ultra Low with standard spring. Great ride on my SG.

Thank you for your response. That iis exactly what happened. They installed the heavy duty 944 shocks. I'm not a big guy so I am not sure why they decided to install them. Hopefully they will do the right thing and swap them out with the standard spring shocks.

The customer service at Progressive is awesome. I had the opposite problem as you.... I had light & needed heavy. I sent them in to Progressive, they replaced seals, etc, changed the springs, shipped them back... all at no charge. AND... I wasn't the original owner.

Give them a chance, they'll make it right.

I put the 944 Ultra Low Shocks on my 2021 Road Glide Special and they did lower the bike apx 2". I've adjusted 944UL's from 1 line to 8 - they will bottom out if the road is bad enough at ANY line. I have a 'Saddlemen Road Sofa' which helps with potholes (we're in Omaha, NE). I do low speed course maneuvers and have noticed the primary guard is scratched (I do have Motorcycle Drop Guards - including the primary guard). More scraping occurs at the lower line count (1) than the higher (8). The 'floor boards' are NOT scratched so the guard is doing it's job. (so with 944UL's the primary gets scratched before the floor board bottoms) I'd rather ride higher at 8 lines than 1 line! Only 2000 miles on the shocks so maybe they will break in and soften up at the higher line count (8). To conclude you are correct is thinking the higher line count is a rougher ride - pray for 'break-in' because the bike height is perfect for me now. (I'm 180lbs at 5.9 31" inseam)
