The clunk into first gear I think you'll find is and has been a common complaint with the new six speed trans. I have a 14 SGS and noticed it when new. I have since switched gear oil over to Belray brand hypoid Gera oil for HD trans. It did help a bit with the clunk.

I spoke to a new 17 bike owner the other day. Claims with the new style clutch assembly the clunk is no more. Just a light click sound into first and for shifting.

It's not under much if any pressure so a leak is less likely. Also if you did develop a leak just change it then.

They all clunk when you drop it into first.

That's never worked for me and my clutch has been adjusted.

i would agree on all points. I think replacement of any used gasket from a tech protocal perspective would be the logic behind replacement .

I am a DYI guy and replacing isn't a problem close to my shop. Away may make it necessary to go through the pain of finding a shop or a roadside repair if faced with a leak like that.

As far as the clunk goes, try a different primary fluid. I have been happy with switching to ATF. I find the clutch discs seem to disengage better. I have also had success with a few name brand primary fluids. The HD primary is okay, but, I am currently running ATF and very happy. Good luck.

Make sure you are adjusting clutch per manual. Not too much free play or it will clunk worse.
