my RG was an '04

and I bought this
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lower-Fairin...5Xj-Rv&vxp=mtr

to support the fairing.

I'm assuming the '16 mounts differently, because this is what is offered to do those

I hate the look of crash bars... and remove them on everything.

Come back and tell us how you fare if you ever do drop it.

This is kinda like a helmet argument lol.

I hadn't "dropped" a bike in over 25 years until he spring of '15.

I had my '15 CVO Ultra serviced and stored at the dealership over the winter of '14-'15 and I called them in mid-April and they said they would have it ready for me on Saturday.

Saturday was a beautiful, warm sunny day so I hooked the trailer up and headed out on the 65 mile trip to get my bike.
She was sittin' out in front of the service department, shinnin' and lookin' fine.

I got my trailer and tie-downs ready, walked over, mounted my bike from the RH side (like always) and proceeded to pull it over and down to the asphalt!!!

Four guys were there and had the bike upright even before I could even get off of the ground!

Not a scratch on anything, except for the lower side of the RH engine guard.

Without those bars (front and rear) that could have been a costly screw-up.

I (we) have bought several new Heritages (5 I believe) and I won't take one out of the dealership unless the engine guard is first installed and believe me, they have more than paid for themselves.

If we lived by "what if's" likely few would ride motorcycles

"what happens when" you drop your bike? ... "what happens when" you crash?...

sounds a bit like my grandmother when she heard I had a motorcycle

True, but we CAN love these things AND take precautions at the same time.
I mean, you don't ride your bike without shoes right?

Honestly, I don't care what people do, I just feel sorry for the bikes...

at the local M/C "experienced rider course" they had a fast sweeper where we were supposed to lean it over & find out where & how it touched.
I got my 2008 Ultra leaned over & grinding, and there was a "lip" where two pieces of asphalt met, and that lip lifted the middle of the bike, where it was touching, enough for the rear to slide out.

it slid about 10 feet on the front crash bar and the bag bar.

I was VERY thankful for the crash bar that day. It did not really damage it (I guess the asphalt was fresh & soft?)
but the rear bag guard had to be replaced off eBay.

exactly...

we bought the 2008 on a Friday, and went to ride it to work Monday, and toppled it over in the driveway (got it cockeyed trying to get around cars) with the wife onboard.

if you takes your chances...you replace the parts later...oh well
