ive had a trucklite phase 7 led lamp in my 06 street glide for about 3 years. recently its began having a weird issue where in cold weather, it wont turn on when i start the bike. if i flip the hi beams on (which work) and off, the low beam will turn on .

it only seems to do this in cold weather (below 45°), but im not sure where to begin checking for issues. any thoughts?

 

I would guess it is the light failing. The truck light has a ballast inside the sealed portion of the light. It is negatively affected by cold as well. If all connections are good. And I assume you have checked that. You need a new light. JMO

Another possibility is a dodgy electrical connector to it. Check for loose or corroded connectors and wires. Swap the lights over, to see if the fault goes with the light, or stays on the same side.

 

I wonder how many cars and motorcycles will be scrapped because the headlights don't work and replacement is too costly.

 

I used to have my headlamp fail periodically. What I discovered is that the connector for the lamp was defective. I would only have continuity some of the time. I changed out the connector and have had no further issues. It's worth a shot to check for broken wires and or corrosion in the connector.
