I've noticed a few times a knocking sound after a ride coming from I think the front of the bike when engine is at idle. Have only noticed it after a ride when engine is hot and turning it around in my garage. Any ideas? I don't know if it's coming from the engine or something is loose and hitting on something. Again, doesn't do it all the time.

 

Is the rubber piece from your kickstand missing?

I checked and it is there. Something is hitting on something but it doesn't do it all the time. Don't think it's anything serious but would like to know where it's coming from.

 

Well get a mechanics stethoscope (about $10).
go around the whole bike. Where the noise is loudest
is where to look.
I would also check the engine while it is idling.
Most engine knocks are described as a pinging sound.
But they can also sound like a actual knock, when detonation
is happening.
Sudden slow down to an idle with a warm engine can cause engine detonation.
Engine heat momentarily increases at this time.
But hopefully it is an external thing that is loose.

 

I've only noticed it a few times. When I have heard the noise is when I'm pulling in the garage after a ride and manuevering it around. Could it be I'm lugging it while engine is hot and causing the knock? If it is engine detonation at idle when engine is hot, is it something I need to be concerned about?

 

Hows ur primary chain adjustment

 

Take a look at the front motor mount. There's been some bad ones.

Also check the stabilizer links too.

 

The last time I heard a knock (not ping clatter) coming from an engine it was followed by a rod coming through the block on an old Buick. It was running well above idle at the time. Hopefully you have something loose on your bike.

 

I have had the stabilizer strut boltcome out from the engine, the only way I saw it was when I changed the oil filter I found the bolt backed all of the way out.
