Yeah, the kit is the way to go. Expensive, but without it, removing the tour pack quickly becomes a hellish nightmare.

If you want the parts, go to http://boardtrackerharleyonline.com and get 20% off, free shipping.

Never did it, but helped a few others.
They liked being able to take the Tour-Pak off.

Using HD parts, at the very least you would need the “Conversion Kit” (Part Number 53246-09C, list $549.95) and the disconnect wiring harness (Part Number 69200181, list $99.95).
That’s $649.90 in parts alone.

That is of course assuming you don’t have an amp under that Tour-pak.

But if you go that route, some advice: the first few times you take it off make sure you have someone to help you.
After you get used to doing it you should be able to take it off by yourself without any problems.

I never understood why anyone would want to remove the tour-pak.

many of us who bought the detachable kit...realize during install that bolting and unbolting the T/P takes about 30 minutes.

the detach kit is great if you are on/off/on/off all the time.

mine is off almost all the time, it goes on when I tour...I coulda saved a few hundred bucks...ooops!

My Rig didn't come with a tour pack, but knew I needed one for touring and Momma.

My tour pack has the following: pod speakers, side marker LED lights, Running-Brake-Blinkers rear LED lights, AirWing rack LED lights.

Came with a Eazy Peazy 1 plug (actually 2 plug, one for led modulator) disconnect set up!

With Tourpak on.

Connecting plug from Tourpak, longer wire for my LED Modulator.

Another view of plug with cap on.

Solo seat, cap shown on plug.

Close up of plug with cap.

There is plenty of aftermarket sales on Amazon and ebay to make your own kit for wayyy less than kit from HD. (Bracket and receivers) Thats the way I went, did have to purchase antenna relocation kit from HD

Thanks for the input guys, so if I only would have the tour pack on when touring its not to bad to take off, and put back on a few times a year. I would say I would run it on about 15% of the time and the rest ride without it.

It can be done for a whole lot less that that. Here's a thread that lays it out step-by-step with some great pics. It's from a few years ago and long but very good. If you're even semi-comfortable wrenching, this is the way to go. Did it myself a couple of winters ago...took my time as there was no hurry. Found the OEM HD 4 point docking hardware & bracket used here in the classified section on the forum. Lots of cheaper "knock-off" versions available on eBay as well. It was a couple of years ago but I don't think I spent over $300.

Makes a great winter project. Check it out here & good luck!
