[QUOTE=Uncle Larry;15849778]This time it's shifting linkage, specifically the shift arm on the transmission ... This is a common problem. On many applications it's quite a chore to remove the lever form the shift shaft of the transmission. QUOTE]
The lever will come off the shaft easily, 1/8"in. more clearance on the inner primary and it would be TOO EASY.

Took my '14 SG to the dealer for a recall a couple years ago. When I went to Service to pick it up, the SW gave me a business card; www.truthbetold.com. When I got on the PC that nite, I typed in the site. Low and behold this site was blaming those of us that do our own maintenance for 85 to 95% of the problems we have as Harley riders.
Main complaint was; 'no one' knows how to or does accurately set their rear foot gear lever on any Harley with the heel/toe shifter. They state this would be better done at the dealer who has the proper tools to perform the correct procedures associated with maintenance.
Said that most owners with the heel/toe were in fact 'footstompers'.
I won't even get into the 'oil' discussions.............

far as that last comment I call it fat footing The 5 & 6 speeds have a short throw to engage the shift forks & clutches so it doesn't take much to do it, most guys go after that shift peg like they are stomping bugs.

Can't say about the latest generation of bikes but after 30 odd years of repairing well abused shovels and early evo's I agree most problems are on the owners in one respect or another.

However, they were saying 'all' of us fall into that category.
The dealer doesn't like me not bringing in my bikes for service.
I take great pride in doing my 'stuff' right. (maint & service)
I did this for my FIL on his show bikes, so there is pride involved.
I'm teaching my Grandson now how to do these things so he'll know. He's only 12. Has to learn the right way now...............

Forks and front end coming off this weekend. Going to look over the air setup to determine it's future. Even if I decide to keep it pretty sure I'll add a reservoir so I can change bars. Also after getting a little feedback, even if I decide to go conventional spring or emulator I'll retain the upper fitting and schrader valve (relocated), for ease of forks oil change.
Also finding out how many parts are different dimension - taillight bar - windshield. It's all coming along.
No Problem, small alteration and thing work.
