Bought a bike today. Decided to give my local shop another chance at it before I headed out of state for the 2016. Worked out to my advantage, I believe. Opted out of the Laguna Orange paint to remove a grand from the equation creating such a discrepancy between the '16 and '17. Talked numbers back and forth for a bit and landed on a black '17 RK (non ABS or security) with RC Components 4.5" Rage Slip-Ons and a $500 store credit. All together, that bridged the gap well enough to justify the difference in price as an acceptable cost for the new motor and upgraded suspension. I'm thrilled not have made the 1100 mile trip to pick up the '16. Pipes sound pretty good, too. Since dealers don't pay anywhere close to retail for pipes and the store credit probably costs them around 50% of the value, depending on what I choose to use it on, I'm thinking I ended up getting the bike for right at $20k out the door. If I use the face value of each of them, the OTD would be around $19,300. I think that's stretching the truth too much.

Only you can decide if the differences are worth $5k.

Congrats on the new ride. You'll like the King, and post up some pics when you can.

Only had time to put about 50 miles on the bike today, and it's going to take some getting used to. Never owned a bike this heavy before, but I will say that once it's rolling, it feels nicely balanced and fairly easy to maneuver.

I've got to find an alternate seat. The stock places the top of the windshield right in my eye line, so getting accustomed to the windshield is even more difficult. I don't imagine the windshield will stay on for most in town riding, though, except for colder weather.

Although I'm abiding by the break-in rules (plus a few extra rpm), the bike seems to have pretty good pick up.

I spent the week shopping for a new Road King. Test drove the 16 and the 17. To me, I just couldn't feel that big of difference. Yeah I could feel it, but only side by side. I ended up with the 16 Road King, 5000 off, I have a 15 Road Glide and love it. And it appears currently, a stage one puts you pretty close to same numbers on both. But I did like the M8 and won't dismiss, maybe trading for an 18 M8 down the road. Any 14 and later touring bike just feels really good to me.
