Default RE: oil drain plug??

It's at the front left of theoil panand probably takes a 5/8" socket to remove. Also, the plug uses an O-ring to seal. I replace the O-ring at each oil change. At a minimum inspect it for cuts, tears, or deterioration.

Do yourself a huge favor and buy the HD Service Manual for the 2001Touring bikes. If you plan on doing any electrical work on your bike, also purchase the Police supplement since it contains wiring diagrams for the police bike and they arevery different from the civilian bikes. Thepolice service manual has very little in it other than the electrical diagrams since the police and civilian bikes are so similar.

I have owned an '04 FLHTPI for a little over 2 years and found the manuals to be invaluable. There is thrifty, cheap, and foolish-cheap. IMHO, owning aHarley and doing your own work without the service manual is in the last category, unlessthe ownerhappens to be a well-qualified HD technician.

Good luck and welcome to the HDF. Post a pic of your bike when you can and introduce yourself in the New Members portion of the Forum.

Trans plug faces down. Oil plug comes out of the front of the pan and faces forward on the left side of the pan. These plugs are 5/8" with a 1/4" allen recess in the center.

This link has pics showing the trans drain plug. When looking at the pic, the oil drain plug is located at the corner of the pan to the right. It is not the flushdrainplug but the one to the right of it.
