Not a big deal, and easy, since you don't have the stock exhaust (I'm assuming by the pic).
Comp nut will go loose sometimes, mine waited til 140,000 miles before it complained, right after I had a go with a 370Z
New nut is 40392-91, loctite it, torque it, you're good to go another 70+k

So, you just replaced the nut and that eliminated the racket on hot start ups??
The racket is caused by by the nut (25) coming loose and the cover assembly (24) making contact with the cams (ramps)(23).
I just wanna get something clear. Is this noise only present during hot startups or, is it intermittent as you ride?
Then, it's not your comp.
Sounds like jackshaft smacking on the ring gear.
Mine only acted up at hot startups and it was the Comp. both times, as a matter of fact, the first time it happened they put a high torque starter in the bike to no avail.

I kinda thought that but, when I opened it up to change the starter clutch, there were no marks on the ring gear or the jack shaft that would indicate "smacking" or grinding.
Well, I've had the solenoid go on the starter, had the jackshaft slam on the ring gear, that sure makes an awful noise, and had the comp nut come loose on both rides and that sure makes a constant racket.... hope you get it figured out and post the results. Good luck
I think what was explained to me was that if the comp is a bit weak that it is like it throws the harmony of the starter engagement or something like that... Hell , I don't know, it could be a faulty flux capacitor..
