If you use a 27/32 reduced shank drill bit to bore out the grip area about 5 inched deep short of the accessory opening you will still have more wall thickness than stock handle bar and the heated grip will slide on easily. I tried it without boring out and the internal part of the heated grip stuck inside the bar. I did it on a 2016 Ultra Limited with a WO578 Wild One set of 1 1/4 bars.

You tap the metal insert out carefully, then the bushing kind of fall out easy. The new bushings can be a pain to squeeze in so I used a BIG clamp.

Meh, What I did was take the sheathing off my grip wires and taped them together with the switch wires, ran them from the center of the bars towards the grip, got some kite string, pushed and pulled them it was easier than just the throttle by wire and switches on the other side.

I cut 3/8" off the end of the bar and I got them all through, but like I said, I went from the center of the bars toward the grip end

thanks for all the info guys. this has turned out to be a bigger headache than i realized. last bars i changed were on a sporty and the UL is a completely different beast. i bought a set of wild 1's 578's off amazon today. their site is useful and informative and the faq answered my qeustions before i asked. forum memebers seem to like them so i feel pretty confident in ordering them blindly. i hope to get some pictures of the install and will post them up when i'm done.
