Default Whining / whirring noise 07 street glide

Good day to all,

My 2007 street glide has 21000 miles and I am starting to hear a whining / whirring noise only if the bike is cold and at the following circumstances:

1. The bike is just rolling with 1st or 2nd or 3rd gear at straight or downhill (no accellaration / throttle)
2. While in neutral or if I will hold/engage the clutch no sound can be heard.

Any ideas of what might be?

gear / transmission berrings have been changed.
also new lifters, 106 BB kit, cam plate/oil pump and cam bearings changed.
VPC installed and noise still there.
Assume that it may be the primary compensator or chain adjuster however I am not sure.

The compensators on these bikes have known issues. The attached photo is my failed compensator, and looks VERY similar to others with the same failure. The "whirring" noise you are hearing may be this failing component.

Assume that the solution is to purchase the S.E compensator and a new H.D chain adjuster for piece of mind.

+1 on the compensator. I had the same style rotor and original style comp on my 08, but since going with the Baker comp and manual tensioner those sounds are gone. Much quieter overall.

If the noise goes away when you pull in the clutch, it's usually the inner primary bearing (IPB); however, if goes away in neutral too, it may be something in the trans.

Places to check anyway.
