I speak from experience, as i've been much bigger than i am now and i'll tell ya, smaller just works better.

Red face

It's a bit unkind suggesting a Sporty. I wouldn't suggest a Softail either!

That would certainly apply to the solid mounts!

Agree 100%. OP remember you always get a jerk or two in the bunch Take your time and get a bike that you are comfortable on

I'm not trying to part of the "rough crowd"...However, how old are you? Do you have a job? A spouse? Children? A mortgage?

I don't think anyone with any of the above should start riding motorcycles, into adulthood. That's what I tell my adult friends when they become enamored. It can be an injurious and dangerous method of relaxation/transportation. You can fall down and break things. On the bike and your body! In my opinion, better experienced as a younger, single person. These touring bikes are heavy, you have to know how to ride.

That being said, I don't see you on a Sportster...

I agree with others that a Road King is a great choice. It is, but it is not cheap for one in good shape.
first thing I would suggest is a riders safety course.
Some of the bikes that I would look for.
Top of the list would be the Yamaha Road Star. It is a 1600 or 1700cc bike (depending on year) They are extremely dependable, and are about the cheapest of all used metrics.
bikes over 800cc. If searching on Craigslist search for both road star, and roadstar
Kawasaki Vulcan or Nomad 1500 or 1600
Suzuki VL1500 or C90, M109
Yamaha Royal Star, Stratoliner, Roadliner
Honda 1100 shadow or Sabre, maybe the 1300 or 1800 VTX... i'm not to sure about the sizing on the Honda's. They maybe a little small in size.
My buddy is about 6'3" and 450# and rides a Road Star and loves it.
Good luck finding your ride, I hope you find the one you want
