Default 2002 Ultra Classic starting problems

Is the green wire attached to the solenoid supposed to be grounded?
Thanx

No, it runs to the start relay.

Thank you. So, if it is grounded, where do I start checking?

you need a wiring diagram and a basic understanding of the primary and secondary starting circuits.

If these terms are not familiar to you- just get to a tech before you make worse or conceal a problem from them.

the green wire IS the primary circuit and supplies 12volt to the solenoid plunger to close the contact switch and make starter run and engage the ring gear.

you can make an emergency jumper wire with a terminal on one end- put this where the green wire was...touch the other end to the battery + or to the recessed plug on a battery tender pigtail- and the starter WILL run

make sure you are in Neutral or the bike will skitter across the driveway and fall over

or a plunger type solenoid cover from any of the catalogs for $50 will bypass the primary circuit- push the plunger and start

Thank you, yes, familiar with electrics.
The starter will run when jumped from battery.
I suspect a short somewhere along the green wire to solenoid. Good place to start?

ign switch power to rt handlebar controls to starter relay to green wire.

many models use same relay for starter and brake light, so swap relays and test

The start relay is under the seat, rear of the battery. Look for the green wire on 1 of the 2 relays. Check the wire.

What makes you think it is grounded? If it was, when you put positive on it to jump the starter, it would take that to ground. (if it was grounded). Have you checked the on/off bar switch?

Start and kill switch both good. I put positive on the terminal, not the wire. Test light lights up when ground applies to wire.
