Default Horn don't blow all the time - Here's what I did.

Its a 50/50 chance that my stock horn will actually blow when I push the button. Its still under warranty, but I wonder if its worth getting another stock horn or if I should go ahead and buy some kind of after market air horn. Anyone have this problem? Any ideas? Recommendations?

Read my last post, my HD dealer is working with me.

Don't have the answer Hack, but I clear mines throat ever day when I start out a rideing. Seems like it has to streach it's vocal cords ever couple days at least and then it's good to go the first push. but if I don't blow the horn every couple days it kinda gurgles a time or two before she belts out a good loud BEEEEEEP!
Don't know why but she;s like that..So I just blast er every day or two..

If it wasn't under warranty still I'd tell you to check the wiring and switch for loose connections or a break inside the insulation.

Since it's still under warranty, make your dealer do it. Don't assume it's the horn itself that's bad.

The stock horns are terrible. I changed mine to Stebel - made in Italty. At 136 Dbs its the loudest magnetic horn (without going to an air horn). A got a pair of them (they are car horns) for $26.00 delivered. I would have the dealer fix it under warranty because with the 50 / 50 deal it sounds like you might have a wiring problem. After they fix it you install the Stebel Manum.

Correct me if I am wrong but isn’t there a $50 service charge for under warrantee work? That would be a very expensive horn replacement… [sm=smiley19.gif]
Or am I confusing extended warrantee?

No charge if it is still in the 2 year factory warranty.

had a similar problem with my softail.found that the screw holding the engine mount at the top of engine under the tank where the horn is mounted was coming off.and the ground wire for the horn i believe was there.check that out first.

Horn on my 06 bagger took a dump. worked once in awhile. Dealer changed it out under warranty. Apparently it's not an unusual occurance...
