Default Upgrade to 103

How much do it cost to upgrade to a 103 motor? How much more Horsepower and torque will you get from the upgrade

I wouldn't wast the time or $$$$ you can build a 95" for a lot cheeper then a 103" motor would cost you through HD, and With the right Cams, and head work a twin cam 95" will walk away from any SE 103".

A 103 stroker is basically a 95 with crank and rods changed to get a longer stroke. (yeah I know Bill, it's alot more complicated), but the question is what do you want? Speed, torque, bragging rights? A larger displacement motor with cams, headwork, exhaust, intake, fuel supply, clutch upgrade, primary and drive belt upgrade will give you a great, dependable motor for a few grand. And, you won't have to rip it out of the frame, split the cases and replace a million perfectly good parts.

Look at what Pilot1996 did to his bike, and look at www.heavydutycycles.com for a few ideas on motors and pricing.

Ok, so what's the difference between a 95" and a 97" or 98"? Do you need to stroke to get either of these two sizes?

I don't think you have to stroke to get 98" with a twin cam but you do with an EVO.

I'm with everyone else on this. I would go with a 95 or so and good heads and cams instead of the 103" factory HD.

Fortunately, my stock 88 with a Stage 1 is giving me all the performance I need, so I'm going to spend my money going places.

Regards,

Bill

a few things on this:
1- normally a stroker is not as reliable if you are putting huge miles on
2-if you want performance and reliability out of a stroker don't go with the screamin eagle kit
3-there are many companies that will blow the doors off the moco stuff....one being Johnson Engine Technology in Rhode Island....they did a 103 on my 2001 fatboy that dynoed at 108 hp and 117 foot lbs. of torque..........you will never see that out of a scremin eagle kit, and many hd parts are used including the SE crank..........Zippers is another one that will hook it up

----remeber horsepower means nothing without torque!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, I appreciate the feedback, but Bill doesn't think you have to stroke and ***** is telling me about reliability issues with strokers and who can do it. Thanks guys but I want to know from someone who is 100% sure what the difference is between a 95" and a 97" or 98"? Specifically are the bigger ones acomplished in much the same way as a 95"? I'm up in Northern Ontario and its 2 1/2 hrs to the nearest HD dealer and 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 to independant shops. When I get there I want to be informed. The one guy I talked to at Donny Petersens in Toronto said you had to stroke to go any bigger than 95" but I'm sure I've seen something on here about a bike that was done to 98"without strokin'. If that is the case why doesn't everyone installing one of these kits going to 98" if it's no more trouble and it can't cost much more?

the difference in 97", 98" etc. is the size of the jugs....it just depends who you talk to and they are probably full of sheat.........95" is the norm then you change the stroke to go to 103"...unless it is on an evo motor then stroke to 98"
