Default Slight oil leak from oil filter

I just changed the oil on my 06 RK and I seem to have a very small leak coming from the oil filter seal. Anyone ever have this? I tightened it to 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn by hand after the seal touched the housing (as specified by the service manual), then tried it a little tighter and it still seeps. Maybe the oil filter itself has a leak? Should I just replace the oil filter again or is there something I else I can do to stop the leak? Thanks!

If you can still move it by hand give it a little more. I have my Auto-techs tighten it completely by hand THEN go a 1/2 to 3/4 turn with a strap wrench. The filter isnt bad, you just gotta give it a little more love.

As big a hassle as it would be, I'd drain the oil and change the filter again. When the filter is off check thegasket and make sure it's not damaged.

1. make sure surface is clean and none of the old gasket ring is stuck there.
2. apply some lube to the new gasket seal before install.
3. always hand tighten (snug up). Do not over tighten.
4. if it leaks, replace it.

Did you oil the seal?

There is no reason to drain the oil as mentioned in a previous post the only oil you will lose is what is in the filter. Just pull the filter as usual taking the normal precautions that you take to keep the oil from running down the front of the engine.

Check your oil level after install of new filter and motor has been on..warm level.

If it is not the oil filter leaking...it probably is the housing itself. The oil filter housing is bolted to the block with three bolts and there are two o-rings on the housing. It is not that uncommon for one of those o-rings to start leaking. Do replace the filter first though.

Thanks! I'll try the filter first, then the housing itself.
