Default Cams on a 96 motor?

How much difference will putting different cams make on a 2010 street glide 96 motor with a stage 1?
Looking for a little more roll on power on the highway and some more grunt when I crack it open!

Or if I'm doing cams should I just go ahead and do a 107 kit from fuel moto?

Cams will make a big difference, I had a stage 1 on my 96" and then installed SE204 cams. It was like a new bike, pulls hard from the bottom and doesn't run out of steam til past 5000rpm. Love my 204's

I have 204's in my 96 and couldn't be happier with this mod along with the SE clutch spring. Definitely a different animal. It also has a very nice lope at idle.

I don't know about the later bikes, but the cams on older ones were compromised, to help make the bikes quieter, as part of the process of meeting EPA regulations. So IMHO a change of cams is an essential part of the process of undoing the harm EPA does and is well worth the change.

You'll see a big improvement. I will say, though, that if you are going to go big, pick a cam that will grow with your build so you don't spend twice on cams. Andrews 48 is a good choice.

I've been thinking about doing the same thing on my 96. but I'm concerned about the gas mileage. What is the affect, if any, on fuel economy when changing cams?

I put cams in 96" (Andrews 54H) and a set of ported and polished 103 heads. Went from 68hp to 96 hp. Yes, cams make a difference.

If your a 96 You should take it out to a 107 (10:5 to 1compression) with cams. You will get more for the money with the 107. The 96 is a pig even with cams because of the low compression ratio. Then get a tts and get it tuned.

The right cams will make a big difference. Andrews 48's will really wake up that motor and make it a lot more fun to ride. It will do what you want.

The FM 107 is a great build if you want lots more power. You need to decide what you really need.

If you add a good set of cams with a proper tune, the effect on gas mileage should be minimal. In fact it will increase in many cases.

My 2010 Road king 96 with Andrews 48's gets 40-42MPG and has great performance. That tune isn't optimized for mileage. I'm pretty sure I can get 44MPG or better with a tune optimized for mileage.
