Default Ok a serious question about oil pressure

I have noticed on the 07 RG that the oil pressure guage drops to really low pressures when stopped. I am a pretty good wrench on cages. I know how oil pumps work and that they will have less pressure at slower rpms. However, it seems on my bike the pressure is way to low. I will start the bike tonight check the pressure and then ride it up the road to see where it levels off and then check again when i pull back in the shop. I do not have my manual yet (Chicago HD yet to ship, see another thread B*tchen about them) so can you kind folks tell me what the idle pressure and the riding pressure should be? I will post back what my actual reading are. TIA

Normal. Especially after the engine is good and warm. Are you running petroleum or synthetic oil?

i have the factory oil in. 900 miles on the ride. plan on changing this weekend. and no this is not going to be another "which oil is best" thread. LOL. I just wanted to make sure I was not having pump issues as i could have the stealer do the 1k and warranty work for me. If this is normal, i will just plan on gettin my hands dirty.

As long as the pressure bumps back up during normal acceleration and cruising you should be fine.

Be careful and make sure your rings are seated with regular oil, before going Synthetic!

Roller bearings do not have the tight tolerances that plain bearings do. The closer tolerances allow more pressure to build up. Don't sweat it.

HD motor requires volume, not pressure, lubricates AND cools the parts. Low oil pressure at idle is normal when warmed up, say 5-10psi, running at speeds, 30ish psi.

Mine does the same and as far as I know it's a normal drop in pressure because ofthe rollers.

I don't believe thats a concern now days with newer engines the Harley CVO come from the factory with Syn 3 and a lot of high performace cars and luxury cars like Corvette, BMW and Porshe come with full synthtic (mostly Mobile1) straight from the factory, I've changed two cars over 95 Maxima, 04 Maxima over with full syn before 50 miles with NO adverse effect the 95 has 150,000 no engine problems and never uses a drop between 10,000 oil changes. just my Humble Opion and experience.
