Default AVC quit working

Anyone have a problem with the AVC on their radio. Mine worked great, set at 4. Then yesterday it just quit lowering the sound when stopping like it was set at OFF. I reset it to OFF then back to 4 and it worked once then quit lowering the sound again. It is still set to 4 but acts like it is set to OFF.
Any ideas..the dealers up here in Seattle have a 25+ day wait on service...

Default RE: AVC quit working

The AVC works from the Vehicle Speed Sensor (a white/green stripe wire).

Try setting the radio at a different AVC level; if the AVC works, then the problem is probably in the radio itself. If the AVC doesn't work even at different AVC settings, then the problem is in the VSS (loose wire/bad sensor) or the white/green wire between the VSS and radio.

I haven't had the problem personally; but, the AVC gets its voltage signal from the VSS (that's how it "knows" to raise and lower volume). So the problem is in the radio, the VSS, or the white/green wire connecting the VSS to the radio, IMHO.

I did not mention in the original post that I did try the 3 setting and again it did not work...then to OFF then to 4 and then 3 & 2 etc. and no settings works so I will take the fairing front off and take a look at the green/white wire and perhaps unplug the harness , check the pins inside and reinstall. If that doesn't help I will have to take it in a month from now...

RR, you should check the VSS; IIRC, some people with cruise control have been having problems with loose wires in the sensor. Also, the wire you will check is white/green stripe. Slot 9 in the Audio plug at the back of the radio; slot 11 at the Deutsch connectors of the interconnect/main harness.
