Hello all. I'm new to this forum. I am currently riding a metric cruiser but will be replacing it with a harley very soon. I'm looking at getting a roadking. I'm still learning about harleys. What is the difference between the standard roadking and the police edition...besides the color? Any difference with the engine, tranny, suspension, etc? I see that it sells for a few thousand less than the standard roadking. With my inexperienced eyes I cannot see any difference between the two.
Do you guys recommend getting a police edition for a few $$ less or stick to the standard?
Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
The Police bikes usually also have hydraulicly activated clutchs instead of using cable and a lot more chrome as standard features as a way to make them more sellable. Saint Paul Harley usually has a lot of black ones available. Here is a link to there web sight.

Hello Rubbernecker,
I have a '05 RK Police Model. As I read the replies, some of the info is correct about the '05 RK Police Model and some of it is incorrect. If you want to know the real difference, then you should order the Police Models Supplement Manual. This manual is not expensive and is a supplement to the Touring Model Service Manual. It explains in detail all the differences with pictures and diagrams. The current issue is "2003 Harley Davidson Service Manual Supplement - FLT Police Models - P/N 99483-04SP". This Supplement applies to the 2004 FLHTP, FLHP, FLHPE. The 2005 models are the same.

my 2003 FLHTPI has a cable clutch, although my HD mechanic has a hydraulic aftermarket kit in his display case I am seriously thinking of getting after I do the PowerCommander.

I have gotten real used to hydraulics from the ZRX, the only diff is the kit my HD guy sells uses mineral oil, where the riceburner uses DOT4 fluid.

I do have an oil cooler on my police spec bike... is that not standard on a ElectraGlide civilian version?

I looked at an 06 Fat Boy Police bike before deciding on the RK.
The FB police bike came with anti-lock brakes.........an nice feature.
Problem was that the factory tells the dealers that the bike has to remain at the dealership for 180 days before it can be sold to the public. And I didn't want to wait.
I guess it has something to do with the bike being available for the local PD's to test ride it

Thanks to all that replied to this thread...you have been very helpful and informative. Christmas came early this year...I just picked up an 05 RK Custom (FLHRSI). What can I say...I LOVE THIS THING!!!
Now that I have scratched my Harley itch...the customizing itch is acting up really bad!!
Here are some pics of my new girl.
