Dropped into my local dealer to inquire about installing IDS. Wow, what an eye opener. Firstly they had no clue of what the IDS is or what is involved in installation. I'm located in Ontario, Canada and told them that I read up quite a bit on this forum from American riders that have installed the system.
First stupid reply was "why don't you go the the States to get it done, Canada is a third world country when it comes to Harley issues?". I found thiskind of strange because they operate out of a really nice$3 Million dollar building witha huge sales and service area and the sign outside still says Harley-Davidson. Real dumb-*** attitude that seems to be a bad disease among HD dealers' staff over here. Secondly the dummie's co-worker tells me he read something about this somewhere and since they've never done one I need to give them an open order, even if it takes 5 hours they want to get paid for this time.
I tried to explain that I don't want to be a test pilot for their ability or inability and they should be able to establish a reasonable time in whichthis can get done. They would hear nothin of it and suggest I try to speak to someone else during the week since they can't give me any reasonable answers. Seems that Harley dealers in my area are out to hire onlyservice people withlots of tatoos and very low IQ's.
I'd appreciate any input as to the time charges that you have encountered from dealer to install the IDS.
I have a great independent Harley mechanic near by but am concerned that he likely won't have the necessary tools to do the install, does he need any special tools?

36mm wrench can pick up at bicycle shop.
36mm socketcan pick up at auto parts store Walmart
Able to read and follow instruction in written form. nice pictures.
About 2 hours to install.
That should do it.

 

from what I've read the time charges seem to vary from 1 to 1.5 hrs.

 

Got mine done at the dealer for 62 dollars.

 

1 hr labor at the most per my dealer in nashville tn

 

are you sure its mm? metric?
i thought our harleys only used standard size?

 

It's almost as easy as changing the rear tire...

 

Have HD 07 repair factory manual bought with bike. says 36mm. I dont know if the owner books has it written down?

 

To make life easy I just type in 2 hours. 1.5 it took me.
Any way it is easy.

 

A 1-7/16" wrench/socket works also.
