Default Ultra Radio Amplifier

After having read soooo much here about speakers and the other radio "stuff"; I was surprised to see that HD sells a amp. for our bikes.

Has anyone used this or heard any feedback ?? Maybe JMJOHN or PEZcould help??

My issue is that I get to about 1/2 on the volume bars and the remaining movement of the volume does not increase the sound output. I think I am at the top of the 20 watts per channel (80 total) and was hoping for more. The amp HD has indicates it will boost 40 watts per channel, which should mean it is a 160 watt amp, I believe.

Part #76418-06 list for $399.95

Maybe PEZ will chime in. I've got a Hogtunes fronts with amp on my RG and just ordered a set of rears and pods a few days ago. The Hogtunes products are da bomb.

I have the same problem. Movethe volumeall the way up and it doesn't seem to make a difference. About 2/3 of the volume range is all I can use.

BIGCHIEF ,,,,,

to be honest, I don't know a lot about the Harley acc amps ,,,,, I have seen a few of the ones they offered for the 1998-2005 systems, and they did boost the volume some over stock ,,,,,

Does Harley offer an accessory amp to power the front speakers for the 2006-2008 systems ? ,,,,, if so, I wonder where they would find room to mount it on the Ultra, as it is pretty cramped inside the fairing, once you get the XM kit in and all the other add-ons ,,,,,,

from what I understand, PEZ at HogTunes has a good deal of experience with amps on the Harleys ,,,,

the main reason I guess that I don't know as much about the amps as I probably should is that I have never needed one on my own Harley ,,,,, the J&M speaker upgrades have always been plenty of sound for me ,,,,,

and I can guarantee you that with the J&M speaker upgrades for the Harleys, there is a very significant difference between 1/2 volume and full volume ,,,,, I mean the fairing is really jumping at wide open volume, without distortion ,,,,,,

I think some of the loss in volume people are experiencing with the Harley systems is also related to the aux input ,,,,,, as that input is not always as loud as say the built-in CD player ,,,,,,

While at teh dealer today, I asked the same question about mounting. They said that this amp is stock on the Screaming Eagle edition...just like everything else...and it is mounted under the Tour Pak.

And I agree John that the Aux input is still an issue, but I have been using the radio and CD player to isolate that specific issue.

The book states that the amp is for 2006 and up, so it must have changed from what you have dealt with.

I have an 03 and before I knew of after markets ie JM or Hogtunes. I bought the Harley Amp upgrade for the Ultra and it came with 4 new speakers plus the amp which does mount under
the tourpak. I would say it gave me a major upgrade on the sound and how loud it would play even with the Aux inupt as I usually play the Sirius instead of CD. I have to be told by friends when we are in town to turn down as it is very loud. I bet the JM or Hogtunes would make it sound even better. I would do the amp on another scoot in the future. JMHO
I like the amp

Thanks for the feedback. Noticed that last year the amp wasabout $450, now its down to the mid $300, and with the 20% off at Zanotti, might be a great way to go.
