Default Road King Custom saddlebag lock

I was looking at these locks from HD http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/g...bmLocale=en_US

Do they lock the lid? or just the bags to the bike?

I have a custom and the locks. They lock the lid. However I find I hardly ever lock them. Garage to work and back. Maybe on a longer trip I might. I can also stick my hand in the back of the bag and get the lid open. I know this because when installing it wouldn't open cause I didn't have it adjust correctly.

Come on in and pick up a set, or you can drive to Boston HD and get them

It locks the lid, which locks up the detach pin, so kind of both. But, locking the lid is the correct answer. I have them on my bike. Easy to install, but did make me nervous drilling into my new bags. Use the template and you will be fine. And, I use mine all the time. If I am away from my bike, they are locked, period. But, this is just a deterant. Just like the hard saddlebags, the detachable hardware can be removed from behind the bags, and your bags will be gone. Some install different bolts that attach the detachable hardware, to make it even harder to remove. But, truth be told, if the want the bags, and have the time, they will get them. Still though, I find some piece of mind having them locked.

If you install this kit, you loose the button openning function! I bought he kit and found out it disables the button opening function which I think its too cool to loose. I use bolts to lock the bag to the bike when on long trips, the stock pins in town and I never leave anything in the bags I can't live without.

now that we have established what these locks lock, I have a suggestion. If you place the new locking button where the old button release is, you are not taking up any more space, you can still access the release while on the bike and they are easy to lock/unlock. Just put the new lock facing foreward towarde the top of the bag.
sorry no pictures, I already sold the bags for hard ones.

If you install following the directions, you will not lose the push button feature. It will now be on the new lock/button where you have installed it. The directions clearly tell you how to do this.

I ordered my locks using the same key number as my ignition switch. Installation was about an hour for me. I will echo Travis regarding drilling and jig-sawingperfectly good saddlebags!

A necessity for me as I can’t legally carry a handgun in certain establishments and I’m not going to leave it in an unlocked bag for some scum bag to steal.

The only complaint I have with them is there’s not a lot of room for your hands when you lock/unlock them. But they’re worth the money though, in my opinion.
