Default Add-on Tach for Road King

Anybody have any recommendations for an aftermarket add-on tach for a Road King? I'm assuming it'd have to be handlebar mounted?? I know there's a replacement HD tach/speedo combo unit, but that's a little more than I can spend right now....actually quite a bit more...

i know you said its too expensive for you right now, but you could save the cash and do it right the first time.... from zanotti's its 389 for the combo.

otherwise, hd also makes a 'mini' tach, 101 bucks, but you would also need to buy the bracket and guage housing for it. at first glance through the hd site, i couldn't find the bracket and housing, but they make a big point of saying 'Separate purchase of application specific Mounting Bracket and Gauge Housing is required.'

dunno about aftermarket, have heard of some folks that bought something aftermarket and the tach only read 1/2 (ie 500 rpm instead of 1000 etc)

Take a look at the HD on-line catalog. They have a mini-tach and a Nacelle mount for the RKC.

If you want an HD solution, look for standard HDtach's on ebay. I see them ocassionally for less than $50, cup, bracket and all.

I too was interested in the speedo - tach combo offerred by HD. Especially since my stock speedo keeps on foggin' up. However, because the stealer told me I would likely have the same foggin' up problem with a brand new HD accessory, I decided to live with what I have - and go after market when the time comes. Nice bikes but shitty service and parts! [:'(]

I bought the Police tach used on eBay for about $50. A couple of screws and a plug-in and I was done. Two enthusiastic thumbs up.

I just bought the HD speedo-tach on eBay. Seller says it's brand new and never been mounted. A customer ordered it from a dealer, who put the requested (1400) mileage on it, but the customer never picked it up. I got it for $315. I don't have that much mileage on my bike yet, so I'll wait a minute before I install it. Just hope it works now. At least I'll have a back up.
