Default Fuel Crossover Question?

I am building a custom bagger with a RWD 6 gallon stretched gas tank. The tank comes with 1/8 in NPT fittings for the fuel crossover. For the crossover, I bought a PRO 1 kit from Drag Specialties that came with 1/8 NPT x 1/8 flared fitting. The stainless steel hose is only 7 inches long and will not fit. The hose is about 4 inches too short. I'll get a race shop to make a longer hose.
But,MOST IMPORTANT, will this small fitting flow enough fuel from the right side tank to the left side (fuel pump pickup is on the left side) to keep the bike running?
I'm in the final stages of assembly (paint is done, transmission on the way from Baker)and would like to make sure I'm not going to have problems when I get the bike up and running.

Default RE: Fuel Crossover Question?

Gunnert - I would think the 1/8" would be fine, but I don't have first hand experience with that tank. Get a hold of Shooter64 (Bart) on this forum. I am pretty sure his shop has built several bikes with that tank.

Have you thought about using a quick disconnect type of hose for the crossover? It would make taking things apart for whatever reason a lot easier down the road.

Nice looking tank by the way.

I would prefer a quick disconnect, but haven't found one with 1/8" fittings.

Bart, HELP???

Default RE: Fuel Crossover Question?

Are you sure it isn't 3/16" or 1/4"? What size is the input to the carb / injector manifold?

The cross over tube isequalizing the fuel from both sides. Thereis a large volume of fuel on the petcock side to pull, so even if it the engine needs more fuel than the cross overcan flow, you may never hit a starvation point. If you plan to run full out for an entire tank full, then I'd say you need a bigger line.

However,1/8" doesn't give much extra space if some dirt gets in the line. I've been stuck and had to rely on gas from questionalbe old cans. This is why I always use a good qualityin-line filter.

I second the vote on a quick disconnect for the cross over tube. It makes pulling the tank much easier.

I'm POSITIVE it's 1/8 in. I'mbuilding a touring bike and I come from the school of "ride it like you stole it" (when I'm not two up).

Default RE: Fuel Crossover Question?

I just pulled my tank to route some stereo wires. What a PITA. Sure would be nice to have some kind of quick connect installed in the crossover hose. That way I would not have to drain (read spill) all the fuel all over myself. Anyone have ideas?

Seems stupid that the main fuel line would have a quick disconnect and not the crossover.
