Default 2003 Ultra Classic Electra Glide

My brother-in-law has just adopted twins and is divesting himself of all his big boy's toys, one of which is a 2003 100-year Anniversary edition Ultra Classic Electra Glide with 1300 miles.

A couple of questions:

1. Is the fact that this bike is a 100-year anniversary model increase it's current and future value any?
2. Is $18.5 a good price to pay, or am I better off buying a new one.

Well, this is one of those "touchy" questions.... The fact that it is a 100th anniversary IMHO does not mean a thing- unfortumately. Harley pumped out so many bikes in '03, and even extended the model year to maximize units. That said, the unit also is (I assume) out of warranty. A new unit with a few nice improvements is just a tick over 20K. You get 2 years of warranty, the vented lowers, etc. I think 18.5K is a little high. That is a good starting price from a dealer who might be getting a trade, etc. I think it is a grand or 2 high......

And then there is the bro-in-law issue..............Family- you litterally have to LIVE with the deal..........

My .0124 (.02 after tax)

I'm with Investersc on this.

'03 is only worth it if it is worth it to you. Same bike, though you could get the special colors, though not all are the special colors. Recently there was a thread about the 100 year anniversary bikes not really being 100 year anniversary, more like 98 or 99, but that is another topic.

I think I would let my brother try his hand at selling at that price from someone that is not family...

I agree with everyone. The market was saturated with anniversary models, plus if you look back at the used price of other anniverasary models, ie. 25th year Electra Glide, 95th anniversary, 90th anniversary, etc., none of them are demanding anything special.

New 2 tone Ultra 20,405 add security 275, add freight 270=$20,950 new with two year warranty.
You will probably pay a little more than MSRP, but it shouldn't be much more if you shop around.

Regards,

Bill

It would also depend on accessories that may have been added. Some say that you dont recover from the cost of accessories but if both bikes being equal the one with accessories wins. How about extended warranty? If the bike has 7 years of extended warranty that would but be a big plus. A cycle trader search shows that that price is on the lower side with the average being $17K to $25K. My thoughts would be if it has the extended warranty then go for it as you will pay 2 or 3 thousand more for a new one. If it does not have a warranty then I would go for the new one.

The current 2 year factory warranty is kind of a bumper to bumper type....the extended warranty has additional restrictions and a 50.00 deductable per warranty item. Not really an equal value...

My 2004 Ultra Classic out the door with a chrome front end, adjustable back rest and security and 5 year warranty was just over 22K out the door. I would not shell out that much cash without at least a warranty. There are more 03's out there than people tend to want. I am seeing `03 paint sets on Ebay now...so in my opinion, the thrill is gone for the 100th anniversary's. Buy new.
