I am going to get my 2007 Road Glide 96 upgraded to 103.
I am staying with HD parts. Here is the question.

Stage 1 = 103 no cams + HD download
Stage 2 = 103 with cams + HD download

Will the 103 with cams give me more bang for the buck or stage one and add V&H Basic Slipons with the Fuel Pack.

I know there are many other options but want to stick with just the two choices above.

Price is a major consideration. Will be Dealer installed , I completely trust them and they have always done right by me.

 

I went with the Stage 2, 103 with cams. I already have the SE air cleaner and SERT with Rush 1.75" mufflers. I know it won't run as strong as the HQ 103 build, but it'll be enough for this old man.

 

Stage II w/ SE 255 cams without question. Very smooth and strong!

what are your thoughts on the clutch pull with the 103/ stage 2? i.i rode one that seemed hard to pull and one that seemed like stock and they were both 08 stage 2 with 103's. i was confused.....again

it's gonna be quite a bit firmer to pull, versus the new reduced pressure clutches on stock 96" or 88"ers, but I can't imagine that even entering into anyones decision to upgrade their motor or not.

 

The increase in clutch pull brings it back to about normal was before the reduce effort ramps. It's a lot better than on the older ones with the heavy springs. I have the 103 with 255's very pleased . Post warranty , maybe I'll do heads , but no problem with power.

 

Do the cams the stageII is a much better upgrade than big bore alone and less $$$ than doing it later.

 

My opinion is you will get more out of a cam change then justthe 96 to 103 with stock cams. I cammed my 96 difference is huge! A 103 with the right cam will be even a tad better.
