Default Batwing Stripped Threads

Folks -

I was installing the HD Deflectors on my 2008 FLHX yesterday. It appears that one of the 8 inserts was cross threaded or damaged. I removed the plastic plug and was not able to get the screw in more than 1 turn or so.

Can anyone tell me:

1 - Is the insert replaceable? I don't know what it looks like on the other side of the fairing - but am wondering if this is just a nut or something that can be easily changed. If someone can point me to a parts diagram I would appreciate it..

2 - what size is this thread? I can try to pick up a tap / die but wasn't sure what was the correct size.

Thank you!

2) take the bolt into the hardware store where you are going to buy the tap and find a nut that will fit it. From there you can figure out what thread etc you need.

You can go to the HD dealer and git new pieces to replace the ones in the Batwing. You can only take if off and on a few times and they strip out and have to be replaced.

Thanks for the quick responses!

I'm going to see if I have the right size at home. If not - I will get one. Seems these do wear out..

Awesome price!
I've paid $10 for just one set (tap & die) when I caught a burr once and had to go clean the threads before reassembling my old bike. Had to use cresent wrenches also because the $10 didn't include handles.
Looks like I founda late Christmas present for myself.
