PhilM - Off topic for a sec - sweet bike...like those rims - who makes them?
They are Weld wheels & both are 18's. I got them from Bart (Shooter64). I am running an 18x140 due to the reduced load rating on the 18x150. I ride 2up a lot & it's just not worth the risk... even though I prefer the look of the 150.

So far, the Metz 880's are great!

The 570 will pull more in the bottom and mid range. The 585 may be a bit much. Either way, you'll have to make sure the heads are clearanced for either. For a mild and very reliable build I'm a big fan of the 570. The 625 is recommended for the 116 and the 640 is for the 124.
If you can tolerate some valve train noise and more wear and tear on the valve train, you may want to consider the Woods TW6HG. It's a great torque cam.

gunnert - Are you saying the Woods cam will be noisier and put more stress on valvetrain parts than other cams? I am using the SE - ACR Performance heads due to the auto comp release feature, along with the mated pistons - they are designed for use with SE 264 cams - which have higher lift than the S&S 585's, so I don't think there will be a clearence issue. Again, I am not the expert, and will leave that to the builders. Just trying to do my homework. They are suggesting to use the S&S 585's.

Thanks PhilM - I've heard about the load ratings dropping, so I have concerns about that too. Do the 18" 140's have the same load ranges as the stock tires? Oh, and nice wheelie pics too dude!

The 140x18 880'shave aslightly lower load rating than the stokers, but not too much. The 150's are a good bit lower than even the 140's.

I agree with gunnert.. the Woods cams are typically more noisey ~ expically the 6H

The noise and added wear attributable to the Woods cams is due to the short duration and sharp opening/closing ramps of the lobes, e.g. opening and closing valves so quickly. Personnally, I'd go with Woods cams, but they are noisy.

Default RE: S&S Cams - which ones?

I am wondering how much difference there is between the Woods cam and the S&S cam - I do not doubt you guys whatsoever, butare we talking about little differences, or huge? I don't want to be pulling straws looking for little gains here and there. I have heard great things about both. I am sure I will notice huge gains over what I had - and that will make me very happy. If there is a 5hp/tq difference, that is not a big deal to me. I dont want to be searching for small gains (and spending the money either). I am trying to build a strong motor, good running enginethat will last a good long time. I hope I accomplish that. Thanks for all your help guys.

My best "guess" is there is probably 8-10% gains with the Woods cams over the S&S 570. I should add I ran the 570 cams when the Road King was a 95in for over 80,000 miles. With a White Brothers' 2-1 E pipe and mild head work they made 98 HP and 106 lbft Tq. Not shabby at all!

Hey gunnert -
Thanks for your input. Can't wait to get her back. Hopefully the weather breaks early around here this year so I can hurry up & break it in! Then off to the dyno for proper tune and numbers. It's on the bench now.

Thanks again to everybody, you really helped me make educated decisions and I feel awhole lot more confident in the choices I've made. Nothing like leaning on personal experiences for help!
