Default Cruise Control - Heritage Softail

I have a buddy that is the most accident prone person I have ever met, and yes he rides.Last fall he fell out of a tree and was taken by ambulance to the hospital with various injuries.....major breakage in his wrist...which ended his riding for the year. Unfortunately it was his good wrist....a horse backed him into the corner of a stable and broke the other one badly a couple years earlier. A couple days ago he called, he was home mending because he fell on his trailer and brokes some ribs and gave himself a concusion, to ask me ifI could put cruise control on his bike so he can give his bad wrist some relief on long rides. Now that I have painted the colorful picture, how tough is it to add cruise to a Heritage Softail?

Long winded question but I just needed to set "that" stage ,
RJ

P.S. Ishould tell you about our last ride whenI stopped at a stop sign, checked my rearview to see him sliding sideways and coming fast.......

Yes it can be added, no big deal. Do they call your friend Mr. Glass?

No but I might start!! Funny thing is he is a tough SOB and other than his nose, talking when should have been punching, he didn't break a bone for the first 45 years of his life! I guess he is making up for it now. The best part is he always has some ridiculous story to go with his injuries!!

I have a buddy who has a Heritage Softtail and picked up Kurykan's new cruise control from Eastern. Looks to be good, but he hasn't had a chance to test it out yet (weather!).

I have used this on my 02 fatboy for 30,000 miles. It's easy to instal. it fit up where the spinwheel lock is for the throttle now. It's called the cruise buddy....It woks on the friction principle.

RJ, if your buddy wants the same cruise control as we enjoy on our baggers, he should contact Dave, the owner of Cruisemount. His website is very informative and his products allow softail owners to install HD cruise control units on their bikes:

http://www.cruisemount.com/

He fabbed a wiring harness for my police model EG so I could install a HD cruise control kit on my bike. Very knowledgeable, OEM quality wiring harness, a very good guy.

One of the guys in our group did it. He said it wasn't too bad with the exception of one electrical problem he had. He swapped the speedo for a speedo/tach combo and there was some kind of issue (can't recall) that the installation instructions did not address. If his has been swapped, check with the manufacturer for a modified wiring diagram.

This is one of the reasons I sold my Heritage and moved to the Ultra. I did a lot of research and the one I'd have gotten (if I'd stayed w/ the Heritage) is the CruiseMount just as Harleypingman suggested also. Good luck to your friend.

Aloha ... Robert
