Default 1988 FLHTC - Is anyone familliar with this old stereo?

My 88 bagger has the stock HD radio but the RH speaker was destroyed when I got the bike. I want to get new speakers from Crutchfield (Polk db 400 marine units) but I'm not sure if there are any "gotchas" regarding HD stereos and aftermarket speakers. Hog tunes and Biketronics and the search function was no help.

TIA

Call Pez at Hogtunes and talk to him. He is a wealth of information when it comes to stereos. Otherwise just take out the old speaker and try to match it up with an aftermarket one. The only thing that would cause a problem would be the Ohm rating and all that stuff that Pez will know about. I can't believe you have an 88 with a stereo that still works. I had all kinds of trouble with my 87 and my 90. Had them replaced several times.

Thanks Terry - I'll go bug Pez. Yea, it's the damn'dest thing. When I got the bike I charged the battery, reconnected the cables and the radio fired (on it's one 17 year old speaker) right up. Hand controls, weather station, etc. still worked fine. Although all it would play were Duran Duran songs - it is from the 80's after all.

The radio on my '90 still worked great when I got rid of it in '02... Although I didn't have too many cassettes left to play in it... The radio outlasted all the cassettes (which probably weren't new in '90 anyway).

Any speaker will work, as long as it's the same impedance and size, but the Pez idea is the best. There are always "gotchas" and he'll know what they are...
