Default Got the 103" kit installed this weekend

Hey everyone,

A few weeks ago we installed a set of Andrews 54H gear driven cams and I have been waiting on the machine work to come in to install the heads/cylinders. This weekend we installed the 103 kit(103 HD pistons with stock bored cylinders), Big boyz heads with compression releases, clutch HD spring, and a set of Timken bearings for the bearings(forgot to order them when we ordered the cams originally).

Install took about 12 hours of working. I had a buddy that I ride with do the install(I just helped where I could). I was able to ride it for a few minutes this evening and the power is definitely much broader and torquey. I am going to bring it back home on Tuesday and next weekend we are going to run the breakin on it.

It took us about 6 hours to get it broke down to the point of starting to put it back together.

Overall the install was fairly straight forward but I doubt I could the install all by myself. It was very cool to be there to watch/help with the install. I can't wait to get the break in done, get it dyno tuned, and then see what it will really do.

Were your pistons "down in the hole" on removal and did you set the quench ~.030? I'm about to partake of this same venture is my reason for asking? Just wondering if yours were and how far down if so.

They were 2 thousandths below the height of the deck plus the 30 thousandths gasket.

emwolb....Yeah it seems pretty simple and straight forward especially when you have someone there that has done a bunch of them. Like I said I doubt I could do it myself but I did enjoy seeing it going together and helping out where I could. I am sending off the cylinders/heads for the dyna tonight and we will be building it into a 107" probably in the next 3-4 weeks or so. After that I'll be done with motor work for a long time(or at least I sure hope so). LOL

I forgot to mention the piston positions. Yes the pistons were down when the cylinders were removed. We jacked up the back of the bike with it in gear and rolled the wheel to get them up to full extension.
