Default Premium oil cooler, oil filter change?

Im a clean freak! With that said (I did try a search) you guys with the HD premium oil cooler on your touring bikes, how do you change the oil filter without making a mess?
Before I had the oil cooler I used a liter soda bottle with the bottom cut out. This worked perfect, never spilled a drop. Now with the cooler in place its a mess. I have tryed the bottle cut different ways, I have tryed tin foil, cardboard, etc to no evail.
I know there are several aftermarket devices for sale but dont know if they work with the oil cooler.

So, you clean freaks with oil coolers, what do you use?

Thanks for your time,
Doug

The mess I make hasn't beenthat big but Iuse brake clean to clean it up right now. A friend
has a oil catch from J&P he is going to let me try so we'll see how that works. I also lay a big
piece of cardboard under the bike to catch stray oil.

I had the same problem. I finally got the black tray looking affair at the dealer that fits under the filter and extends out past the frame. Works like a dream now. I also tried the pop bottle, plastic bag etc. This seems to be the cleanest, but is still a pain.

I also do not use the chrome cover that comes with the cooler, all it does is collect oil and water and dirt. Doc

I have the chrome cover on my oil cooler. I use a half gallon plastic milk jug.....I had to cut on it several times, but I ended up with most of the bottom cut out and probably 2/3 of the sides. It seems to be thinner plastic and more flexible than a soda bottle. I have no problem fitting it under the filter.....never loose a drop.

I switched to K&N oil filters, they have a nut on the end. With a pop bottle under, clean, no spills.

just an idea: I'm fixing to get a premium oil cooler for mine, I was thinking of putting a ball valve on the bottom oil line to the cooler, put a two or three inch piece of tubing on that and when changing oil open the valve and let the filter drain. If it works I'll post it.

Lots of good responses here......I have the exact oil cooler you do. I fabricate a drainage alley out of tinfoil under the filter & toward the left side of the scoot downward into a drain pan. You have to fold the tinfoil over about five times to get the strength you need.....bend as required......good to go, no mess & takes about 5 minutes to make. Throw the tinfoil away when done. Sorry, no pics.

Just my $ .02....................WD

I have used the aluminum foil method and while it is a pain in the ***, it has worked for me. I will be interested to see who has the best"mouse trap" for this procedure though.
