Max pressure on side of tire.. each tire is different so you cant rely on Harley recommendation... Max pressure= max tire life..

I have had Metzelers before on my Sporty and really liked them. When j tried to translate the "MT908-16" to a metric reading, it does not work. An MT90 would be a 130/90 but my specs add an "8" at the end which messes me all up. I know that the standard tire for the police model is a runflat, is that what the "8" is saying? It is supposed to be a 130/90-16 runflat? If anyone has a better tire suggestion too that would rock! Thanks everyone.

Peace.

I think it should be "MT90B16"

No, it is supposed to be 8. I have actually found some one who knows the answer. The 8 does, in fact, stand for runflat. It is a police tire and that is what the specs on the bike call for, though any MT90-16 would work. Including a "B."

As fire tire pressure. Set your front and rear to 40#s. The ride will be more comfortable and you will get longer life out of your tires. If you are ever in doubt, go by the mad PSI on the side wall, it says it very clear. Always go OVER the max not below. You will not hurt the tires by going over but you will over Heat your tires running just 5PSI under.

Here's a page from the 2008 FLT Police Model Service Supplement:

TIRES 2.3

GENERAL

The rear tire on FL police model motorcycles is fit for solo riding

only. If converted to a two-up bike, that is, configured for passenger

use (with luggage), then the rear tire needs to be

changed to one with a higher weight rating. Since it has long

been Harley-Davidson policy not to mix different types of tires

on the same vehicle, we strongly recommend that both front

and rear tires be replaced. In order to alert the customer to this

safety issue, the following warning appears on a label fitted to

the rear fender approximately 1/4 inch (6.4 mm) behind the

domestic seat mounting hole.

This vehicle has tires with weight ratings for one person

operation. If this vehicle is modified to carry two people,

the tires must be changed. See a Harley-Davidson dealer

for proper replacement tires. Using improper tires can

cause tire failure which could result in death or serious

injury. (00096a)

NOTE

Use the tires recommended for civilian/pleasure vehicles of

the same year and model family.

Harley-Davidson front and rear tires are not the same.

Interchanging front and rear tires can cause tire failure,

which could result in death or serious injury. (00026a)

Tire size, manufacturer's description and inflation pressure are

listed below.

NOTE

ABS motorcycles must always use tires and wheels that are

the same as the original equipment. The ABS monitors the

rotational speed of the wheels through individual wheel speed

sensors. Changing to different diameter wheels or different

size tires can alter the rotational speed. This can upset the

calibration of the ABS and have an adverse effect on its ability

to detect and prevent lockups. Tire inflation pressure that is

significantly low also can have an adverse effect.

Table 2-7. Tire Data

TIRE PRESSURE

(COLD)

TIRE LOCATION SIZE MANUFACTURER'S DESIGNATION

Front MT90B 16 72H Dunlop D402F PT 36 psi (248 kPa)

Rear MT90B 16 72H Dunlop D402 PT 36-40 psi (248-276 kPa)

All 2008 vehicles use only Dunlop Harley-Davidson tires.

2008 FLT Police Service: Chassis 2-3

I also have the 1994 FLHTP Service Manual Supplement for Police Models that lists the following information for tires:
FLHTP
Front MT90B16 Dunlop D402F 36 PSI
Rear MT90B16 Dunlop D402 36 PSI

I did notice that the 2008 manual has a "PT" designation after the Dunlop D402.
I wonder if that designates it as a "Police Tire"?

Here's a link to a Dunlop Technical Tyre Release for "PT" tires dated August 2011:

I have a 2003 without ABS so that is not an issue really. As for the MT908-16, the 8 is a runflat designation, sometimes labeled PT for "police tire." The weight rating is the same when the tire is filled properly, the runflat feature is designed only for a single rider, so when you do have a flat the tire is rated for one person only. Though harley has changed their policy to no longer sell PT to civilians. They are for use on police vehicles only.

Default 2016 Heritage Softail Classic

I've got a 2016 Heritage Softail Classic, Screaming Eagle 103 (upgrade), American Freedom (True Duel) fishtails. running the Dunlop 402's. Now have about 13,000 miles, and the center of the rear tire is worn out, while the sides look almost new. Owners manual states 40 psi in rear. I ride solo only, and weigh in about 170. Thinking of dropping pressure down to about 36 psi to get better wear. Suggestions / comments ?

Hey brother, I recomend you do not go with lower tire pressure. One of the reasons we do not use standard car tires is because of the sidewalls. They do not have the support to keep the tires from rolling; they are designed to have support on the outside not the inside because the tires on the opposite side will provide support.

If if you have ever had a flat tire you understand the deminished control with low pressure tires.

As someone who has ridden daily for monetary necessity, I understand the pain of replacing many rear tires. Sometimes you have to just bite the bullet, as much as that womps.
