Default Front Brake Lever/Cruise Problem

I have a '06 RKC and recently&nbsp\\;replaced my front brake lever with a new chrome one.&nbsp\\; Very easy install but after the install, I noticed my cruise control would not engage consistantly.&nbsp\\; Then I noticed that once it did engage, it would disengage after hitting a small bump.&nbsp\\; I played with it a little and noticed that if I just moved the new brake lever up or down, the cruise would disengage.&nbsp\\; There is nothing inside the brake lever mount or on the lever that I missed installing.&nbsp\\; It's a very simple design.&nbsp\\; The only thing inside the clamp is the brake switch/activator which does not appear to have an adjustment.&nbsp\\; My guess is that&nbsp\\;the new&nbsp\\;lever&nbsp\\;is in constant contact&nbsp\\;and probably should not be.&nbsp\\; I don't understand how replacing a lever could change the switch adjustment??????
&nbsp\\;
Any ideas out there?&nbsp\\;
&nbsp\\;
Thanks.

If you can't adjust it out, remove the lever and take some material off where the lever hits the switch then reinstall and give it a try. you might need to do this a few times to get it right. Just remove a small amount at a time though.

Thanks Zimbob.&nbsp\\; I thought of that but wanted to be sure there was no other solution.&nbsp\\; I'll give it a try.

Did you re-set your cruise lash after you buttoned it all up?

You have been given some bad info by Zimbob.&nbsp\\; The brake light switch works just the opposite of the way you both think it does.&nbsp\\; When&nbsp\\;you&nbsp\\;are not pulling on&nbsp\\;the brake lever&nbsp\\;it holds the switch button in which keeps your brake light off and your cruise engaged if you are using it and when you pull on the brake lever it lets the switch button come out and that is what makes your brake light come on and disengages your cruise control if you&nbsp\\;have it on.&nbsp\\; You either have a bad switch or&nbsp\\;more likely your new&nbsp\\;lever was machined wrong and does not fit tight enough to hold the switch button in.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\; Sure hope you didn't grind any material off your lever because if you did you made your problem worse.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\; Pull your lever off and work the switch with your finger and you'll see how it works.

&nbsp\\;
The engine should be at normal operating temperature and throttle and idle cables should be correctly adjusted.
To set the correct cable lash proceed as follows:
1. Push the Cruise Switch on the right handlebar to RESUME and hold it.
2. Turn the Cruise ON/OFF switch to ON.
3. Turn the Ignition switch to IGNITION.
4. Start the engine. The green Cruise Enabled/Engaged lamp in the speedometer will illuminate.
Wait 3 Seconds for the lamp to go off.
5. Release the Cruise Switch from the RESUME position
6. Push the Cruise switch to RESUME and hold. Cruise will pull in cable until change in RPM is detected.
The number of motor steps required to rev the engine is stored in memory.
7. After engine revs and Cruise Enabled/Engaged lamp is extginguished release the Cruise Switch from the RESUME
position.
8 Turn the ignition switch to off.

Thanks cowboyglide. I don't know where my head was at with that. Must have left it at the bar.
