Default adjusting passing lamps

When you all adjust your passing lamps, how do you hold the lamp and the turn signals straight? I went to adjust mine with the correct tools from snap-on and when I go to tighten up the lamp the lower turn signal piece also turns. I thought I once saw a tool that holds the turn signals straight while you tighten the passing lamp nuts. Any ideas?

I just did mine so I remember vividly about the directional turning problem.
I'm pretty sure there was a star washer above the nut which causes the problem.
Just get the aim you need with the directional base about 20 - 30 degrees counter clockwise from where you want it to be.
When you bring the nut up to torque , the directional base will follow and be straight when you're done.
Took me a couple tries , but it went smoothly after that.
I just made the socket from an old 9/16" deep 1/4" drive socket and slotted it with a muffler cutter.
To make matters worse , the right adjuster bolt was bent from the factory , making it a real pain to get straight when done.
Good luck and be patient , it's a pain , but well worth the effort.

Hi,
I don't mean to high-jack your thread but I have a related question.
&nbsp\\;
Does anyone know how far out in front of the bike and how far apart the beams from passing lights should be projecting?
&nbsp\\;
Thanks,
Willie

I screwed mine up so bad last time I tried to adjust them that I ended up taking them to the dealer to straighten them out. I sure would like to know what you call that tool so I can get one and avoid the dealer next time.

If you're going to do your own work/adjusting buy the manual. It has a lot of good information and diagrams to make the job much easier. Well worth the money and you can get it online for around $45.

Ride well,

The tool I got was a snap-on part # FRX181. You should be able to search that snap-on # to see what it looks like. The tool works great, just have to try the turn while tightening trick.
