The stock pipes have a "tab" that sticks up in the middle of the muffler. Take a broom stick or a wooden rod and drive it down. The mufflers will be louder and be more of a high flow muffler. The only problem with this is you can not raise the "tab" back up unless you take the muffler apart.

ttarr, what you REALLY want is a Stage 1 upgrade, commonly called the Harley tax.&nbsp\\; Get ready to spend about $1K (could be done for less, if you are a careful shopper)&nbsp\\; Stage 1 includes the following 3 items: slip-on mufflers, a free-flowing air cleaner, and some sort of fuel management device, to adjust your air-fuel ratios (AFR's).&nbsp\\; Listen to the pipes on your buddies' bikes, or in the parking lot of the next rally you attend.&nbsp\\; Once you pick your pipes, figure out the fuel management device that suits you best.&nbsp\\; I recommend Vance &amp\\; Hines fuelpack, because it is easy to install, and you get great results.&nbsp\\; Note: make SURE that the fuelpack has a program that supports your pipes.&nbsp\\; This is critical, in order to achieve the desired power increase (should be about 10-15%) and also to avoid problems associated with installing unmatched parts.&nbsp\\; This is the cheapest horsepower you can buy, and it is an easy upgrade.&nbsp\\; Do your homework, ask questions, and you will be very satisfied with your resuts.&nbsp\\; Good luck!&nbsp\\;

The cheapest horsepower and sound you can buy comes as a package from http://www.fuelmotousa.com/

There is a picture of it in the dictionary under "best bang for the buck".

daym, you just dropped close to twenty grand on your dream bike and now you want to skimp for some sound??
WHY??
Hang out &amp\\; listen for the sound "YOU" want and ask what they did to get it that way. There ain't no "shade tree-ing" the 08 bikes without screwing something up. But hey,.. it's your ride and your dime.
Congrtas on your new bike by the way.

Living in SAN DIEGO I would HIGHLY recommend you don't screw with the EPA APPROVED EXHAUST it will come and bite in the A$$ sooner then you think.&nbsp\\; Spend the bucks on slip-ons and stash you OEM EPA Mufflers in the back of your garage.

About a 5/8" to 1" hole straight through the middle will sure enhance the tone.
