Default Breaking in SG

Spoke to dealer today and he says SG is in, so I should be picking bike up next week.

At one of the dealerships that I first went to they told me in order to break in the bike properly you ride it for 15 min. let it cool down and repeat it three times. Has anyone heard this from other dealers?

Thanks

Rob

that is to allow the metal in the engine to cycle thru heat & cool down...this process "seasons" the block and seats things in...its a good idea...not totally necessary tho...we always break em in like we'll ride em

Read the owners manual. Don't go over 3k RPM over a certain speed, vary throttle.... The break in you were told sounds like S&S
Break in procedures. As above, good idea but not totally needed.

This a miss conception on new bikes. The service manager told me to ride the bike like I'm going to ride it all the time. He said out of 15 years he never had a engine go bad. So ride your bike like you are going to ride I did it that way. No problems and I have 6000 mile on my bike.

To put this as simple as possible, the first 20 miles is BIG. Do not baby the bike, but do not beat the crap out of it. Run it thru the gears some what, try to keep the motor above 2500 rpms during that first 20 miles, and maybe up to 4500 rpms. After the first 20 miles keep it above 2200rpms and start hitting 5000 rpms ever now and again. Also all of this time do not run the bike at one certian rpm for very long.

Just my opinon is all.

My dealer told me the same thing about 15 minutes and then let it cool off.

Thanks for the info.
Just a side note I called back to HD with the vin. #. They told me the bike was built on 3-8-06 and it has the #25 injectors. That helped relieve some anxiety.

You know that everbody that goes on a demo ride dogs the **** out of the bike. I bet that they just sell the bike like new, with standard warranty.

ride it like you stole it..... it'll seat those rings just fine. The break in is more for the cam lobes than the rings I suspect.

I am a big fan of an initial oil change ASAP.... couple of hundred miles get new oil in there with a fresh filter.
