Default Indy, MOTO GP, What to do?

I"m meeting two of my sons in Indianapolis for the MOTO GP, 11th thru 15th Sept. is when I'll be there. We have tickets of course to the event, and we're working on the Flat track tickets. Anything else a must see in the area? We'll have a car, (cheaper than renting 3 bikes) and we'd like to see the local area. I know someone dropped me a line that they lived there and would give me some pointers on what to see, but when the Forum changed, somehow I lost his PM, so I don't have any point of contact. Oh, and any good local food stops would be appreciated.

I live in Indy, what do you like?
You could see the Art Museum, the Indian Heritage Museum, or you could go to the party place in town, called Broad Ripple.
You should check out the canal down town, and look at the Lucas Oil Stadium.

What is the canal down town? We'll definitely hit Lucas Oil Stadium. Thanks. Any good Restaurants you'd recommend? Not so much on the Musuems (unless it's the Googenheim (with 100years of Motorcycling) and we've seen lot's of Indian stuff as we're from out west. We were just wondering if there was something that "we shouldn't miss if we come to Indy".... that kind of thing. Thanks again.

Im from indy...Truthfully the one place to see is where you are going. The Indy 500. The night before the race will be a big party right on Georgetown road in front of the track. I happen to have 3 rentals accross the street from the track and have a big local band performing the night before. PM if you would like details. Lots of beautiful girls and music. There is Ruth Chris steak house downtown. PM me for any specific questions. Be prepared for a great time at the track!

Shapiros is a good recomendation. Anyone going needs to make sure to put the Slippery noodle inn on thier short list. This is a local favorite for music and drinks!

The go kart place is called Fast times Indoor Karting, and it is near Keystone Ave. and 96ths streets, the karts pull my heavy butt at close to 40mph,and I am close to 300lbs. A word of warning there was a guy killed there last spring
when he lost control of his kart.
The downtown canal has a bunch of small food shops, and a scenic canal that runs through a park.
If you like pizza go here http://www.bazbeaux.com/locations.html
