Did the new style motor mount REDUCE vibration
Has anyone else noticed that you get a significant vibration increase between 2500 and 3000 rpm? Below 2500 and above 3000 it runs smooth. I can feel it in the highway pegs and through the seat.
I took my 05 Ultra to my dealer, but they said the mount was not bad and the vibration was normal. I know it is a Harley, and they vibrate and make noise, but I don’t think this is normal. I have an XM radio mounted on my faring and it gives me a great visual representation of the vibration. Below 2500rpm you can read the display and see the numbers clearly. At 2500rpm the display vibrates so bad you cannot even read it and then above 3000rpm it is clear again.
I want to know if the mount will fix this.
Thanks

RE: Did the new style motor mount REDUCE vibration
I have wondered if my mounts are bad, but I have been told it is due to the unbalanced engine.
I have ridden with several buddies with the 88B and they have all noted how much vibration I have in comparison to their rides.
This will be in interesting thread...

What is the usual amount of vibration? If I let go of my handle bars, my mirrors will vibrate to the point that I can not get a clear/steady view of cagers behind me. I have noticed other touring bikes vibrating as much so I never worried about it.
Next time I'm at the stealer, I'll have them take a look at it.

I had my mount changed a few months ago and it felt a little better but not much, but while at the shop today getting my injectors replaced they noticed it was installed UPSIDE DOWN! They replaced it again and installed it correctly and it is much smoother now.

The 88B is a balanced engine with fixed isolated motor mounts.
Vibration may be a high speed misfire. Try changing your spark plugs using the stock HD plugs. I had a vibration using another brand, switched back to the HD stock plug, vibration went away. Apparently the HD computer spark is critical and any other type of plug or a slightly fouled plug changes the electronic signal through the coils and can't fire a slighty fouled or high preformance plug.
I also changed my motor mount to the new style on my Ultra and it does have less vibration at idle. Changing the plugs stopped the high speed vibration.

RE: Did the new style motor mount REDUCE vibration
The original "feel" of the bike's vibration, due to the rubber motor mounts, was not bad. It got worse over time, and I complained about it at the 5K maintenance. Sure enough, the front mount was broken -- the flawed mount described elsewhere in this post. When the mount was changed, I noticed a difference from the broken mount vibration, but it was not as muted as it was originally. Explanation: The re-designed motor mount is harder and transfers more of the vibration to the bike. The flaw in the original design was that it was "too soft" and therefore subject to failure.
