Default Premium Gas?

I have an 08 FLHR. With the gas shortage in Atlanta, it's just about impossible to find any premium gas. The only gas they're bringing in is regular. My question is....would it be OK to run a couple of tanks "regular" unleaded, until we get premium gas back in the city?

Also, I thought I read somewhere that you can put an additive in regular gas. Any suggestions along those lines?

Thanks,
Banks

Hi Banks!!!!

I have heard of people running regular in their rides but I wouldn't recommend it. If you add an octane boost additve in the fuel be sure you read the labels carefully. Not all are equal and the term "points" is deceiving. I had to run some boost a while back and the only thing I could see was that it turned my plugs a reddish color and a tinge of red on the exhaust. Not alot of info for you but some food for thought.

I ran regular in my Ultra out west, mostly because that's all I could find only difference just like a car not as much power but the bike ran quieter and the MPG was about the same also. 55-57 in the elevations.

Up here we can get premium but recently I have found some of the gas stations, it has been lousy quality, bike has been running poor.

This morning added some octane booster and topped up the tank with premium again and the bike ran great. Try some octane booster..

My bike really pings when running regular particularly in hot weather. Buy the octane booster, see how your bike runs before you add it and then add as needed.

get yourself some octane booster...bike was running fine on the old 89 they had, the new "dirty" gas will ping. I had to get some octane boost (hard to find here now) to prevent the ping

Hey Banks.
Texaco at Peachtree Industrial and Rogers Bridge in Duluth had some premium the other day for $4.49 per gallon.
Good luck and 'squawk ident'.

Today I had no choice but to put in a couple of gallons of regular until I found a gas station that carried premium. I was surprised the bike ran fine, no problems of any kind except the bike ran a bit hotter. I would not recommend using regular for a long time but it is OK in a pinch.
